Reproductive Health Refresher

On October 28, 2024, 11 learners participated in a one-day Reproductive Health Refresher training session. This marked their first exposure to a Reproductive Health Refresher course with EFHA. 9 of these learners, nine work with Incon Health in Occupational Health Clinics, while the remaining two are employed at SASOL Mining.

Most learners expressed that they needed this refresher to begin offering contraceptive services in their clinics and to become eligible to receive government-supplied stock. Overall participation was strong; during the two case study exercises, most attendees actively engaged, sharing feedback and asking questions to confirm their approach and decisions.
The training was conducted over Zoom, and learners found the platform user-friendly and had no difficulty joining the session via the emailed link.

I also learned that SASOL has mining sites in Secunda, making it a unique opportunity to train Occupational Health Nursing Practitioners (OHNPs) from the mining sector.

According to the 2024 Sustainable Development Goals Report, the proportion of women of reproductive age (15–49) who have their family planning needs met by modern methods has risen from 76.5% in 2015 to 77.6% in 2024, reflecting an additional 75 million women using modern contraception globally. By 2030, this proportion is projected to reach 78.2%, representing a further increase of 45 million women. While this progress is encouraging, it still falls short of the universal access targets set for 2024. Greater collaboration with the private sector will be essential for governments to bridge this gap.
