We teamed up with ATA International to teach Spirometry, Audiometry and Vision refresher courses for 12 students on the Acacia Bulyanhulu Gold Mine in Tanzania.
Students also came from 2 other mines that are owned by Acacia, namely Buzwagi and North Mara.
It was my pleasure to go back to the site to teach these doctors, nurses and medical staff, who I had trained with previously in 2016.
The courses were run over 2 weeks, split into 2 groups who did all 3 refresher courses back to back. The refresher courses are always an eye opener for new information, but are also done to make sure that current policies and procedures are in place and correct.
We implemented some positive changes to all 3 clinics after the training, and these will definitely improve the quality of their testing and also the overall running of their occupational health surveillance programs.
We learnt a lot, laughed a lot and got spoiled with wonderful food and hospitality from the staff at Bulyanhulu.
A very big thank you to Petro and Lindsay for all their support before and during this training. And also to Trevor, Tasneem and the ATA International team.
