Occupational Audiometry Screening

The Occupational Audiometry April 2026 learner group attended a series of Practical Mentoring sessions in preparation for the completion and submission of their Workplace Assignments, due on 29 May 2026.

This learner group consists of four learners. Due to workplace demands and operational commitments, 50% of the learners were able to attend the live mentoring sessions. To ensure equitable access to the training and support provided, recordings of all sessions were made available via Dropbox for learners who were unable to attend live sessions. This ensured that all learners remained aligned with the Workplace Assignment requirements and expectations. 

The Practical Mentoring sessions were designed to support learners in both the practical and administrative components of the Workplace Assignment process. The sessions focused on strengthening learners’ understanding of occupational audiometry procedures, documentation standards, calibration requirements, and assessment preparation.

The following topics were covered during the mentoring sessions:

Session 1: Required Documentation for Workplace Assignment Completion

Learners were guided through all documentation required for successful completion and submission of the Workplace Assignment. This session included:

• An overview of the Workplace Assignment requirements
• Review of required supporting documentation
• Guidance on completion standards and submission expectations
• Discussion around common administrative errors and how to avoid them

Session 2: Calibration Requirements

This session focused on the calibration component of the Workplace Assignment. Learners were guided through the correct completion, interpretation, and understanding of:

• Electro-Acoustic Calibration
• Biological Calibration
• Daily Functional Checklists

Emphasis was placed on the importance of calibration in ensuring equipment accuracy, quality assurance, and compliance with occupational audiometry standards.

Session 3: Baseline, Entry, and Initial Audiograms

Learners were guided through the correct completion of Baseline, Entry, and Initial Audiograms, with particular focus on:

• Accurate recording of patient information
• Correct documentation procedures
• Identification and completion of missing information
• Ensuring audiograms meet workplace and legal documentation standards

The Initial Audiogram was completed as a simulated case study during the session and will form part of each learner’s Workplace Assignment submission.

Session 4: Periodic and Exit Audiograms

During this session, learners completed a simulated Periodic Audiogram case study, which will also form part of the Workplace Assignment submission.

The session additionally focused on Exit Audiograms, including:

• Correct completion of the Audio Questionnaire
• Collection of relevant supporting information
• Understanding the purpose and interpretation of Exit Audiograms
• Discussion of documentation standards and case examples

An example case study was provided to support learner understanding and application.

Session 5: Practical Assessment Preparation

The final mentoring session focused on preparing learners for the upcoming Practical Assessment. The following areas were discussed in detail:

• Assessment structure and flow
• Practical Assessment requirements
• Expected competency standards
• Marking criteria and assessment expectations

Supporting practical training videos were shared with learners to demonstrate the practical assessment components in alignment with the Practical Assessment Marking Sheet.

Summary

Despite attendance challenges related to workplace responsibilities and operational demands, all learners were provided with access to the required learning materials, mentoring support, and session recordings. This approach aimed to ensure that every learner had the opportunity to adequately prepare for both the Workplace Assignment submission and the Practical Assessment.

The mentoring sessions provided learners with additional guidance, practical reinforcement, and clarification on key occupational audiometry concepts and documentation processes, supporting their progression towards competency in occupational audiometry screening.
