Competence in this training course will enable the learner to:
- Understand the principles of occupational hearing conservation
- Perform audiometry equipment quality assurance tasks
- Perform (prepare, conduct, evaluate) audiometric screening tests according to industry and best practice standards
- Record the audiometric test screening result
- Interpret audiometric screening results and provide appropriate recommendations (not applicable for assistant course)
- Report on the audiometric test screening result (not applicable for assistant course)
- Manage the audiometric screening test result (not applicable for assistant course)

You are embarking on a SAQA NQF Level 5 journey, which requires more than only memorization of evidence-based practices—it demands active engagement and application.
The course follows a structured, sequential format. Your first step is to read and sign each page of the Learner Contract below. You will not be able to proceed to the next section until you have completed the required steps, which include:
Reading the content, watching the end-of-chapter summary videos and any embedded video clips, and completing the end-of-chapter quizzes.
Each chapter takes approximately 1–2 hours to complete, including reading, watching videos, and answering quizzes. Once completed, you will find the Mark Complete or Quiz Summary button, which serves as a save function and tracks your progress.
The course consists of 15 chapters, requiring an estimated 35 – 40 hours of self-directed learning on theory and your facilitator-led contact sessions and completing the quizzes online. Effective time management is crucial. Aim for 1-2 hours of study per day, either during work hours (as negotiated with your employer) or in the evening.
