This programme aligns with SASOM principles for occupational health surveillance and fitness-for-work decision-making. The Vision course exists to promote early detection and effective management of vision problems that can affect workplace safety, productivity, and overall employee wellbeing. Many work tasks rely heavily on good visual function, yet vision impairments often go unnoticed until they contribute to errors, accidents, or reduced work performance.
This course was developed to equip healthcare and occupational health practitioners with the knowledge and practical skills required to conduct accurate vision screening, interpret results correctly, and identify workers who require further assessment or referral. Early identification of visual problems supports timely intervention and helps prevent avoidable workplace incidents.
The course also exists to support employers in meeting occupational health and safety responsibilities. Vision screening forms an essential part of fitness-for-work assessments, particularly in roles involving driving, machinery operation, screen-based work, or safety-critical tasks.
Ultimately, the Vision course exists to standardise vision screening practices, improve the quality and reliability of assessments, and contribute to safer, more efficient, and healthier workplaces.
