Estimating potential noise in the occupational setting

Estimating potential noise in the occupational setting

South African legislation1,3 requires that the employer identifies the potential of noise in the workplace. This can be estimated using a validated noise thermometer or an internal dosimeter. Noise levels needs to be confirmed by an occupational hygienist who is registered as an authorised inspection authority. Pending the confirmation the employer is still legally required to ensure that the hierarchy of control have pro-actively been implemented.
