The EFHA Mentorship Plan

We want our learners to have access to as many resources as possible in order to provide them with the best possible experience and to do that, we need you.

EFHA Buddy Mentorship Programme

The EFHA Buddy Mentorship Programme is an informal programme offered by EFHA to connect those that have completed training with those who are undergoing training. This programme is targeted at those who have achieved success in EFHA training courses and are open to or like to work in the community and give something back to society.

  • Anyone can join as a Buddy Mentor
  • Open to those who wish to participate in community giving and common good.
  • There is no cost to the learners and no charge by the Buddy Mentor
  • EFHA maintains the database of interested parties on the website for people to directly contact one another.

EFHA Mentor Leader Programme

At EFHA we offer Mentor Leader Training Courses for each of Spirometry, Audiometry and Vision Screening in the Occupational Health Setting twice a year (in March and September). Once a potential Mentor / Leader has completed the training course, their name will go on to an EFHA database of trained and competent EFHA mentors. This database will be published on the EFHA website. Under this Mentor Leader Programme, the learner will contact and pay the mentor directly.

  • Entry criteria to join the Mentor Leader Programme: has passed the course in question with EFHA.
  • Any potential mentor leaders can join these courses.
  • Mentor Leaders in Training do not pay and EFHA does not earn.
  • The courses are sponsored by EFHA or other external organisations/partners to simply cover the costs of training Mentor Leaders for the Occupational Health Community
  • We suggest that the mentor charge the learner a fee of R990.00 or thereabouts to assist learners to complete their portfolios and gain competency in their subject but the agreement on cost is between the learner and the mentor directly and has nothing direct to do with EFHA.

EFHA Portfolio Support Days

This offering is targeted towards learners who are not working in a clinic and struggle to both find a workplace to complete the practical requirements of training as well as learn what is required from the portfolio.

Within this offering, the learner has the opportunity to book and attend a Portfolio Support Day. These days take place at an EFHA training venue where up-to-date equipment is available, and a facilitator will supervise and mentor the collection of the portfolio of evidence. EFHA Portfolio Support Days have a fee of R1500.00 excl VAT (to cover the costs related to venue hire, equipment hire, disposables for testing and facilitator fees).

  • Takes place at EFHA training venues.
  • All equipment and disposables are provided.
  • Facilitator is provided.
  • Learners are to bring their own lunch/refreshments.
  • Learners must bring his / her own patients to test.
  • We need minimally 2 learners to book this day at the same time to cover costs.

EFHA Facilitators and Assessors go to Learner’s Workplace

The learner may contract an EFHA facilitator/assessor directly through EFHA to mentor them to completion of their POE. This way they have a professional EFHA facilitator available to them to assist them one on one in their own workplaces.

  • Typically, companies may pay for their learners to access this support.
  • Dates/times are decided by facilitator, learner, and clinic availability.
  • Facilitators supply their own refreshments/lunch.
  • EFHA will charge R2500.00 per day plus travel costs at R6.00 / km for a facilitator to visit the learner in their clinic and spend the day further teaching and mentoring them to completion of training requirements.
