Spirometry Training, Nairobi Kenya – June 2019

Kenya
Spirometry Training at the Kenyan International Scientific Lung Health Conference (KISLHC), Nairobi Kenya
25 - 27 June 2019
Spirometry from strength to strength in Nairobi

A comprehensive spirometry programme was held in Nairobi at the 5th KISLHC between the 25th and 27th June 2019 including a 1 day Pan African Thoracic Society (PATS) 1-day Certificate of Attendance training programme. This was followed by a 2-day Healthy Lungs for Life event held in collaboration between the European Lung Foundation (ELF), PATS, The Kenyan Programme for TB and other Lung Diseases (KAPTLD) and the KISLHC.

In true Kenyan style, the people arrived on the day of training in numbers far exceeding those that had registered, or were expected, for a day of community with fellow colleagues in learning and mentorship. The 45 eager participants interacted fully in the educational programme and will take back everything they learnt into their individual institutions.

Something special about this event: when we started the programme on the morning of 25th June, we were working in collaboration with KAPTLD. We finished the day working with the Respiratory Society of Kenya (ReSok) as the organisation enters a new season and with that the name change. Congratulations to all involved.

Special thanks to the Pan African Thoracic Society and to Prof Chakaya and his wonderful teams from KAPTLD / ReSok and the KISLHC for working with us to make the training as full and rich as it was. Thank you to Dr Sammy Gitonga Arithi and Dr Salim Masoud for co-facilitating with me.
