The third of the six ACACIA study teams have undergone their spirometry training this past week in lovely Kampala in preparation for the start of their upcoming field work for the ACACIA (Achieving Asthma Control in African Children) study. Fifteen healthcare professionals from Mulago Hospital, Makerere University and Case Hospital in Kampala attended the PATS Spirometry Foundational Certificate of Competence short course held from 11 – 13th February. Once again, this foundational competency course was augmented by the facilitation of the PATS Spirometry Over-reading and Quality Assurance workshop on the 14th February 2019, which gave the study team and their hospital colleagues further insight into the importance of data validation in research and spirometry in general.
Congratulations to Dr Winceslaus Katagira, at the Makerere University Lung Institute (MLI) who facilitated his first full PATS spirometry course and is now a fully-fledged PATS spirometry trainer. What a great accolade to Wincey, the Makerere University Lung Institute, Mulago Hospital, and Uganda who are building great capacity in their respiratory health expertise and better lives for respiratory patients. We are happy to welcome you on board Wincey.
