Virtual live facilitator-led courses give you comprehensive training right from your own computer. Virtual Live Classroom (VLC) training provides hands-on learning, interactivity and participant engagement, all with the flexibility of learning from wherever you choose. Practical components are demonstrated whereafter the student completes the training requirements by gaining the necessary practical experience at a face-to-face practical training day that occurs on-site in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, George, Port Elizabeth, Nelspruit, Windhoek, Harare, and other countries as required.

eLearning
Self-led online learning at your own pace from online course materials on the website

Learning utilising electronic technologies on any digital device to access educational curriculum outside of a traditional classroom. Convenience is one of the main reasons people love eLearning. Students learn at their own pace in their own time around other work and family commitments. Practical components are demonstrated whereafter the student completes the training requirements by gaining the necessary practical experience in a workplace of their choice.

Course Details

This Occupational Screening Spirometry course is aimed at health care practitioners and their assistants who are responsible for performing and / or interpreting spirometry conducted in the occupational health setting.

International health guidelines call for the routine use of screening spirometry in the workplace. This course has been developed with the primary purpose of assisting healthcare professionals and their assistants working with spirometry to gain the knowledge and skills to achieve high quality spirometry results.

Course Outcomes

The purpose of this spirometry skills programme is to prepare a learner to operate as an Occupational Screening Spirometrist. Successful learners will develop the competence to:

  • Perform spirometry quality assurance and quality control tasks
  • Prepare for a spirometry test
  • Conduct a spirometry test
  • Evaluate the validity of the spirometry test result
  • Interpret the spirometry test result
  • Record and report the spirometry test result
  • Manage spirometry data
Course Overview

The course will take an estimated 80 hours to complete as follows:

Hybrid Training
  • 4 hours pre-learning self study online
  • 25 hours theory presented live online by a facilitator
  • 8 hours end of chapter questions and workbook self study online
  • 10 hours theory study preparation for theory assessment self study online
  • 2 hours theory assessment online (invigilated by EFHA)
  • 8 hours practical demonstration and practice in person at EFHA venue
  • 2 hours practical assessment (live with a facilitator online)
  • 21 hours portfolio of evidence (collected in the workplace and submitted for assessment)

  • 4 hours pre-learning self study online

All training content is accessible online once proof of payment for the course is received. The training manual is not printable or downloadable. Printed hard copies of the training manual are available at an extra cost.

CPD Accreditation

50 clinical level 1 CEUs accredited with the South African Medical Association (SAMA) (on request only well in advance of training).

Credits / NQF level

On successful completion of the training, learners will be awarded 8 credits at NQF level 5.
