Buddy Mentorship Support Programme

The Buddy Mentorship Support Programme was created to help newer
and less experienced colleagues grow into confident, capable practitioners in real workplace settings.

Many learners find it challenging to move from understanding the theory to performing skills comfortably in a busy clinic or occupational health environment. Classroom learning is the foundation, but true competence develops when learners begin applying those principles in real situations.

EFHA recognises this transition can be overwhelming, and we are committed to supporting learners beyond the classroom.

Who is the Programme for?

Any student or newly qualified practitioner from an EFHA course
who needs extra guidance in applying their skills is welcome to join.

We reached out to healthcare communities across Africa and invited experienced practitioners to volunteer as mentors; people who believe in growing the next generation of Occupational Health professionals.

How it Works

Each pairing includes:
A Mentee

A student or early-career colleague who wants support

A Mentor

An experienced practitioner who volunteers to guide others

Mentorship is flexible and can include:
Welcoming the learner into their facility for observation.
Allowing supervised practice using clinic or workplace equipment.
Sharing professional insight and workplace expectations.
Providing guidance, tips, and explanations on theory or practical technique.
Offering encouragement, confidence-building, and real-world troubleshooting.

Some mentorships last a single session; others grow into long-term professional relationships.
All are valuable.

Why We Do This

Our vision at EFHA is simple:

Competence grows through community.

By pairing learners with generous, knowledgeable mentors, we build stronger, safer occupational health services – one relationship at a time.

Through shared learning, kindness, and professional support, we are investing in the next generation of Occupational Health practitioners.

We look forward to seeing today’s mentees become tomorrow’s mentors.
