Angie is a seasoned Occupational Health Nurse Practitioner and lifelong learner, with some 21 years in occupational health service to a variety of industries. She qualified as a registered nurse in 1996 from BGA Alexander Nursing College with cum laude in the general nursing and midwifery subjects. Angie got the opportunity to travel and nursed in the UK before returning to complete her B.Tech Degree in Occupational Health Nursing (OHN) at Wits Technikon in 2001 with cum laude in the research and pharmacology subjects. Soon the mentoring and hosting of postgraduate students in her OH clinics inspired her to then complete her B Cur Degree in Nursing (Ed. and Admin et al.) at University of Johannesburg in 2008, again with distinctions. This time in the research and nursing education subjects. She embraced the opportunity to co-ordinate, facilitate, assess and moderate various short courses (Audiometry, Spirometry and Vision Screening in OH) and the clinical facilitation of the Advance Diplomas in OHN for her 4 years with OCSA Academy of Excellence and later the 8 years with Wits Department of Nursing Education.
Angie continues to grow as an advanced nurse specialist and an innovative nurse educator with an impressive versatility to effectively use an array of blended teaching methods to advance the quality of clinical skills required in OH. She also consults on various OHS governance documents, and co-ordinates cost-effective interprofessional interventions in the prevention of occupational diseases and/or injuries, develops OH programs, and auditing services. She continues to be an active committee member of SASOHN at both regional and national committee since 2000 and as a SASOHN auditor since 2013. She was recently awarded SASOHN Honorary Life Membership status (2021). Recently, in 2021, she became one of the expert representatives on the Technical Committee for the review of the NIHL Regulations with the Dept of Employment and Labour. The research work she had done with SASOHN on developing an audit tool to check the quality of the audiogram content had contributed. Internationally she has also been an active ICOH Member since 2015 where this quality assurance tool was published. At ICOH she is a member of the SCOHN, SCETOH and SCVN Committees.
In what is left of her spare time she enjoys combining her love for her hubby and two teenagers with her love for travel, photography and/or art workshops.

I am a child of Africa through and through. I was born in Zimbabwe, grew up in various provinces in South Africa, and later had the humble opportunity to meet so many fellow lifelong learners in my various on-site facilitation of the short courses to all provinces in SA, Namibia, Congo, Tanzania, and Ghana to date. Added to my ever-evolving worldview is that my hubby is from Croatia and my kids are both born in SA. We are a real example of the rainbow nation! I thus look forward to meeting you in the classroom/ on-line so you too can teach me in a glimpse from your world as we embark and continue together on this competency journey of the various occupational health skills required today.
