Certificate of Competence in Occupational Audiometric Screening
Greetings to all our EFHA learners!
Two enthusiastic learners have recently joined the online blended Occupational Audiometric Screener course, embarking on the first step toward professional competence in this essential field.
The course consists of four one-hour sessions that lay the theoretical foundation required for understanding occupational audiometry. Delivered in an accessible virtual format, the sessions cover core principles such as the anatomy and physiology of the ear, types of hearing loss, the impact of noise in the workplace, and relevant occupational health legislation.
Through interactive lectures, guided discussions, and practical examples, the learners are introduced to the critical knowledge base that supports safe and effective audiometric screening in occupational settings.
The aim of these initial sessions is to equip learners with a solid theoretical understanding before progressing to practical application. As they prepare to become competent occupational audiometric screeners, they will also explore ethical considerations, standards for hearing conservation programmes, and the interpretation of audiograms.
This foundational knowledge is crucial for ensuring accurate testing and meaningful reporting. With commitment and engagement in these sessions, the learners are well-positioned to transition into hands-on practice with confidence, ultimately contributing to the early detection and prevention of noise-induced hearing loss in the workplace.
