Certificate of Competence in Occupational Audiometric Screening

Greetings to all our EFHA learners!

The Blended Occupational Audiometric Skills Short Course successfully commenced with participants from CHAD, Botswana, Angola, and South Africa. This course equips learners with the necessary skills and knowledge to competently conduct occupational audiometric screenings for employees exposed to workplace noise at the newly gazetted action level of 82 dB(A) or noise rating level of 85 dB(A).

The program combines self-paced theoretical modules with online, facilitator-led Q&A sessions, ensuring a strong understanding of the core content. Practical components—including skills development and assessments—are conducted online. In addition, learners are required to complete a workplace assignment and practical logbook to demonstrate applied competence.

Upon successful completion and proof of competence, learners are recognised as Occupational Audiometric Screeners. In South Africa, legal compliance requires registration with SASOHN as per the Department of Employment and Labour guidelines.
